CAAS Accreditation

Setting the Standard for Excellence in Emergency Medical Services

Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS) is proud to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), having first earned this prestigious recognition in 2021 and achieving reaccreditation in 2024.

CAAS accreditation reflects our commitment to providing the highest quality pre-hospital emergency care to the Greenwich community. This achievement places us among an elite group of ambulance services across the country that exceed industry standards in operational efficiency and clinical care.

Our Journey to Accreditation and Reaccreditation

  • 2021 Accreditation: GEMS underwent a comprehensive review process, meeting CAAS’s high standards for quality and efficiency. This marked our entry into an elite group of EMS providers recognized for operational and clinical excellence.
  • 2024 Reaccreditation: Following another rigorous evaluation, GEMS was once again recognized for our commitment to maintaining and exceeding these high standards. Reaccreditation ensures that our community continues to receive the best possible emergency medical services.

What Is CAAS Accreditation?

The Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) is an independent accrediting agency that promotes excellence in emergency medical services. Established in 1990, CAAS sets the “gold standard” for ambulance services by evaluating over 100 rigorous standards across all facets of operations, including:

  • Patient care and clinical standards
  • Operations management
  • Communications systems
  • Human resources and staffing
  • Vehicle maintenance and safety protocols
  • Financial and risk management

CAAS accreditation signifies that an EMS provider has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and exceptional care.

Why CAAS Accreditation Matters

CAAS accreditation benefits our community by:

  • Ensuring Quality Patient Care: Demonstrating that we meet or exceed national standards for clinical excellence.
  • Promoting Operational Excellence: Maintaining efficient and effective emergency response services.
  • Enhancing Risk Management: Utilizing best practices to minimize risks to patients and staff.
  • Building Community Trust: Showcasing our dedication to transparency, accountability, and exceptional service.
