What you should know

GEMS’ strict hiring guidelines include these requirements:

  1. State of Connecticut Certification/License (EMT, Paramedic).
  2. Minimum of one (1) year experience in EMS as an EMT or Paramedic.
  3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (Paramedic).
  4. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (Paramedic).
  5. American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification.
  6. National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 at Minimum.
  7. Successful completion of a GEMS/Connecticut Statewide Protocol examination.
  8. Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.

GEMS continuing employment requires:

  1. Successful completion of State of Connecticut refresher training and requirements.
  2. Daily evaluations of individual call-run reports by the GEMS Director of Quality Assurance.
  3. Monthly CME and Call Review requirements.
  4. Maintain current certifications in ACLS, PALS, and BLS CPR required for your level of care.
  5. Attendance of annual skill review sessions provided by GEMS.

Physical Exams

All potential applicants are required to complete a pre-employment physical examination through our contracted medical provider.

All active employees are required to complete an annual physical examination as a condition of their employment.

Drug Testing

GEMS requires pre-employment drug testing and ongoing random drug testing.
